The 1997 Chiefs Temex shirt is very rare and one of the most sought after shirts however 1997 wasn't the best year for the Waikato Chiefs rugby team in the Super 12 Tournament. They started off well winning 3 of their first 4 games however they only won one more game. Overall they won 4 of their 11 games and finished 11th overall in the table. They earned 19 points in total with only the Highlanders below them
The team was coached by Brad Meurent and captained by Ian Jones.
