Report from the Rothmans Yearbook
An unexciting finale to the six match tour was marred by the sending off of two players and another being sent to the sin bin. The dull match flared up in the 59th minute with a brief melee which ended with home skipper Crooks and opposite number Brown being dismissed, broken nose victim Roberts, of Warrington, being replaced by Halifax's Dixon. Late in the game Wigan's Edwards was sin-binned after a clash with Cooper.
Great Britain coach Malcolm Reilly, in charge of the Chairman's XIII as a tour trial, did not learn a lot, the Man of the Match award going to Auckland scrum half Freeman.
One outstanding lesson, however was the lack of effective use of outstanding wingers Ford and Offiah, who each scored a try with sparse possession. Whitfield contributed two goals, Brown replying with one kick on target before, in the last minute, winger Shane Horo grabbed his sixth try of the tour.
