This is a very rare Gloucester Official Europa long sleeved Rugby Union Home Shirt from the 1970s

CONDITION - Shirt is in good condition

CONDITION DETAILS - Colours are good, crest is excellent. There are seom stitching errors on the left side and there are some small pulls

SIZE - Adults 40" - Medium.

Armpit to armpit 20 inches Top of shoulder to bottom of shirt 28 Inches.

DETAILS - Very rare shirt made by Europa from the late 1970's. Cannot put an exact year to this but Europa made the shirts at the end of the 70's and the crest is from that period. 

HISTORY - Gloucester Rugby was founded in 1873 as a club for the pupils of the city's grammar school. The team played its first match that same year against the local YMCA. Over the years, the club grew in popularity and began competing against other local teams.

In 1891, Gloucester Rugby played its first match against an international team when they faced the touring South Africa side. The match ended in a 3-3 draw, and it marked the beginning of Gloucester Rugby's reputation as a tough opponent.

During the early 20th century, Gloucester Rugby became one of the dominant forces in English rugby. The club won the county championship in 1900, and in 1906, they defeated the famous New Zealand All Blacks team.

Gloucester Rugby's success continued into the 1920s and 1930s, with the club winning several county championships and producing a number of international players. However, the onset of World War II put a halt to rugby in England, and the club did not compete again until the late 1940s.

In the post-war years, Gloucester Rugby struggled to regain its dominance, but the team enjoyed a resurgence in the 1970s and 1980s. During this period, the club won the John Player Cup, the predecessor to today's European Champions Cup, twice.

In the 2000s, Gloucester Rugby became one of the top teams in England, reaching the final of the Premiership in 2003 and 2007. The club also won the European Challenge Cup in 2006 and 2015.
